Enjoy Sun and Cocktails on a Hen do in the Algarve
All too often we get caught up in our busy lives, rushing around rather than relaxing. So, when my friends announce they’re having their hen weekend abroad, I’m always glad of the excuse to book some time off work and jet off somewhere sunny!
The Algarve, in Portugal, is perfect for hen parties. It’s a classy place that boasts an amazing climate (lots of sun!), chic bars, great shopping and lots of beaches to chill out on. It’s popular with families, keen golfers and celebrities for these reasons and more, so you know you’ll enjoy a classy trip when you come here with the girls.
Obviously, the Algarve takes up a large part of Portugal, although I’d recommend Albufeira as a good base. It’s got a bustling nightlife, a huge choice of restaurants and plenty of activities to be enjoyed, so is the ideal destination for pre-wedding celebrations. Some of the resorts in the Algarve are very quiet with limited things to see and do, but you certainly won’t get bored in Albufeira.
For a start, a sunset cruise, market trip, dolphin spotting, jeep safari and water park excursion are just some of the activities you can get stuck into when in the Algarve with your friends and family. I think these all sound like fun and definitely something I’d like to try.
After a busy day sunning yourself on the deck of a yacht during a boat BBQ, snapping up bargains at the local markets and splashing in the waves at a water park, what better way to reward yourselves for your efforts than tucking into a hearty Mediterranean lunch and a cocktail or two?
If you want to top up your tan some more, head to one of the beautiful beaches. The Algarve boasts nearly 200 km of coast, so you are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting a stretch of sand for you to all relax on. Pick one that is serviced by several cafes and bars so you aren’t too far from a refreshing beverage. While I love trying new cocktails when abroad, try to limit your alcohol intake during the daytime, as you don’t want to become dehydrated and feel a bit peaky on your night out!
Albufeira has a fantastic nightlife, not only thanks to its many cocktail bars, but also due to its bustling clubs. Whether you want a quiet drink with the girls or would like to dance the night away, you will find a venue to accommodate your needs. I’ve always found when in a large group that the bar staff are more willing to give you good drinks offers, so don’t be afraid of seeing what deals you can strike.
One of the best ways to perk yourself up after a jam-packed night is to tackle one of the many water sports on offer in the Algarve, especially if you happen to topple into the waves! Jet skiing, riding a speedboat, surfing and canoeing are some of the sports you can all have a go at and will definitely provide you with some giggles.
